Thoughts on Celebrating Valentine’s Day

Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day“Valentine’s Day should not be ‘this horrible day that you need to cope with or survive’.” (Mandy Hale)

While it’s sad to think that some girls and guys feel left out because they don’t have a significant other to spend [Valentine’s Day] with, it’s not too late to realize it’s not a “couple thing” at all. It’s a great time to express and experience love in all relationships – another special day to celebrate the people we love. And we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

Whether you’re in a romantic relationship or in your season of singleness right now, choose to celebrate the fact that You are loved by God, trust His perfect plan for your life and have a meaningful Valentine’s Day with some ideas below.

FIND A WAY TO DEMONSTRATE LOVE TO THE PEOPLE GOD HAS PLACED IN YOUR LIFE.

Spend time with family. Plan a date night with your parents. Send someone a box of chocolates, flowers or a card. Connect with friends for a meal or a cup of coffee. Do volunteer works. Perform random acts of kindness. Show everyone an extra love and appreciation, following in Christ’s example – putting another’s needs before our own and serving one another in love (Galatians 5:13).

SPEND SOME QUIET TIME WITH THE LORD.

Carve out time to be alone with God and meditate on how much He loves you. A love so true and complete that He sent His Beloved Son to die for our sins, so that we may have life through Him (John 3:16). God wants us to know Him. He desires a loving and personal relationship with us and there’s no better time to pour out our love and pursue Him than now.

PRAY FOR YOUR [FUTURE] SPOUSE.

This could be one of the best Valentine gifts you could offer to your significant other or future spouse. Pray that each of you would walk closely with Christ and grow in relationship with Him. For single men and women, ask God for help and guidance in balancing contentment in singleness and the pursuit of marriage. You can also try making a “husband/wife list” to know what you are looking for in a future spouse and what God has spoken to your heart. Seal it with a prayer, embrace this season and wait on God until He reveals “the one” for you. <3

TREAT YOURSELF TO SOMETHING SPECIAL.

At times, we are too busy looking for love somewhere else that we tend to neglect how to love ourselves. This Valentine’s Day, treat yourself to something special. Cook your favorite meal. Get yourself a beautiful dress. Curl up with a good book. Watch your favorite movie. Try new things that will make you feel joyful and excited. Or attend Closer Conference this coming Saturday! *wink*
